Potential Benefits of Out-Of-Pocket (without using insurance):

If you are seeking therapeutic support, but do not want some of the restrictions of utilizing insurance, paying out of pocket is an option exercised by some clients.

  1. A greater degree of privacy. Your insurance provider requires therapists to share your diagnosis, goals, and treatment plan. We often see clients who prefer that this information is not accessible to other entities. (People who tend to want a greater degree of privacy are doctors, first responders and military personnel, people who need secret and top secret clearances for their jobs, public figures, people addressing sexual or relationship concerns, and individuals working through past traumatic experiences.)

  2. You can seek individual, family, couples and group therapy without being given a mental health diagnosis, and without limitations of number of sessions approved by your insurance. When you use insurance, therapists are required to assess each client and assign you with a mental health diagnosis. This diagnosis will be a permanent part of your medical record, which can impact future insurance costs, life insurance, job opportunities, etc.

- When working with children and adolescents, it is not always beneficial or appropriate to assign a mental health diagnosis. Family sessions are often essential for optimal results and sometimes, insurances will cap or indicate the number of family sessions available, which interferes with the therapeutic process.

- Because couples therapy is generally not covered by most insurance plans, you or your partner will need to be identified as "the client." This will require that you or your partner be given a mental health diagnosis and be the primary focus of therapy.

Sliding Scale Fees:

At Handcrafted Counseling & Consulting, I understand the financial commitment required to invest in your mental health. When needed, you may request to use the sliding scale fee options. Handcrafted C&C will determine if you qualify for the sliding scale fee, along with the length of time you will have access to the sliding fee scale. The sliding scale fee is based on household income with additional considerations (number of dependents, etc.) through an application process. It is understood that the sliding scale is temporary and subject to periodic review by Handcrafted C&C, along with any changes in income/situation reported to Handcrafted C&C.

Out-of-Network Provider Information:

If Handcrafted C&C is not credentialed by your insurance provider, then services provided by Rachel Camilo Harris, LMHC, LPCC, are out-of-network (which means that Handcrafted C&C will not bill your insurance company directly). If you choose to use out-of-network benefits, you would pay the full standard cost of service at the time of session, Handcrafted C&C would provide a super bill (receipt), and you would submit the receipt to your insurance company for reimbursement. Please contact your insurance provider to ask if your benefits include reimbursement for out-of-network providers.

Cancellation Policy:

All appointments must be cancelled 48 hours in advance or you will still be responsible for the appointment fee. Emergency situations do occasionally arise, and this missed appointment fee may be waived; however, Handcrafted C&C must maintain this general policy because there is often a wait for appointment times for clients in need. Every effort will be made to respect your time to the same degree that has been requested of you.

GOOD FAITH ESTIMATE Information:

Under Section 2799B-6 of the Public Health Service Act, health care providers and health care facilities are required to inform individuals who are not enrolled in a plan or coverage or a Federal health care program, or not seeking to file a claim with their plan or coverage both orally and in writing of their ability, upon request or at the time of scheduling health care items and services, to receive a “Good Faith Estimate” of expected charges.

You have the right to receive a “Good Faith Estimate” explaining how much your medical care will cost. Under the law, health care providers need to give patients who don’t have insurance or who are not using insurance an estimate of the bill for medical items and services.

  • You have the right to receive a Good Faith Estimate for the total expected cost of any non-emergency items or services. This includes related costs like medical tests, prescription drugs, equipment, and hospital fees.

  • Make sure your health care provider gives you a Good Faith Estimate in writing at least 1 business day before your medical service or item. You can also ask your health care provider, and any other provider you choose, for a Good Faith Estimate before you schedule an item or service.

  • If you receive a bill that is at least $400 more than your Good Faith Estimate, you can dispute the bill.

  • Make sure to save a copy or picture of your Good Faith Estimate. For questions or more information about your right to a Good Faith Estimate, visit www.cms.gov/nosurprises.
